Jordan's Queen Blasted for Take on Israel-Gaza Attacks

Jordan's Queen Rania was sharply criticized after accusing Israel and the West of a "glaring double standard" for condemning Hamas' terrorist attack on Oct. 7 that killed more than 1,400 Israelis while remaining silent about civilian deaths caused by Israel's military response in Gaza.

"When Oct. 7 happened, the world immediately and unequivocally stood by Israel and its right to defend itself and condemned the attack that happened," Queen Rania told CNN on Wednesday. "But what we're seeing in the last couple of weeks, we're seeing silence in the world."

Hamas terrorists led a coordinated attack, infiltrating 22 towns in southern Israel during a surprise attack on Oct. 7, striking the Jewish state by land, sea, and air, including the firing of some 5,000 rockets.

The organization also kidnapped more than 200 hostages and took them back to Gaza as bargaining chips. Some have since been released.

Israel has responded with a massive bombing campaign in Gaza that has killed thousands of Palestinians, laying siege to the densly-populated area and initirally cutting off food, water, electricity, and other vital supplies, although some humanitarian aid has been allowed to flow in through Egypt.

"This is the first time in modern history that there is such human suffering, and the world is not even calling for a cease-fire. So, the silence is deafening — and to many in our region, it makes the Western world complicit," she said. "Are we being told that it is wrong to kill a family, an entire family, at gunpoint, but it's OK to shell them to death? I mean, there is a glaring double standard here. It is just shocking to the Arab world."

According to CNN, the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health is reporting the death toll in Gaza at 5,000 with 2,000 being children.

Conservative author and commentator Katie Pavlich called Rania's remarks "disgraceful" in a post Wednesday on X.

"An absolutely disgraceful display from Queen Rania in which she, who takes full advantage of freedoms afforded to Western women while living in luxury ruling an Arab country, issues a screed devoid of facts and full of smears," Pavlich wrote. "Zero condemnation for Hamas killing their own people and holding them hostage in Gaza, which she bizarrely calls 'occupied by Israel,' even though they left in 2005.

"She and her husband, the King, are still refusing to take refugees (who she claims to deeply care about) into their own country. Grotesque."
