Report: Israel Sends Armored Force Into West Bank

By    |   Thursday, 26 October 2023 10:19 PM EDT

More than 100 armored vehicles from Israel Defense Forces reportedly entered the city of Jenin in the West Bank late Thursday into Friday morning local time in an apparent large-scale effort to arrest terrorists from Iran-backed Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Open source intelligence monitor OSINTdefender posted on X video of the ground force that included Caterpillar D9 armored bulldozers. The post said the IDF had come under heavy fire since entering the city. There were no reports of casualties.

Earlier in the day, the IDF and Shin Bet, Israel's version of the FBI, reported more than 60 people were arrested in another raid that took place in the West Bank. According to i24 News, 46 were believed to be Hamas operatives.

According to a joint statement from the IDF and Shin Bet, weapons, including two M-16 rifles, and incendiary materials were confiscated during the raid in the city of Tubasm, as well as in the village of Ein a-Shariat, in the Binyamin division.

Overall, about 1,000 people have been arrested across the West Bank since Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7, including 660 associated with Hamas, the statement said. On Wednesday, the IDF reported the arrests of 68 people, 58 of whom have suspected ties to Hamas.

Since Hamas' terrorist attack that killed more than 1,400 Israelis, the IDF has retaliated through an unprecedented aerial bombardment on the Gaza Strip. On Thursday, the IDF said airstrikes killed five senior Hamas commanders including Shadi Barud, the deputy head of Hamas' intelligence force, The Times of Israel reported. The IDF accused Barud of planning the Oct. 7 massacre along with Hamas' leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar.

Another strike killed Hassan al-Abdullah, head of Hamas' North Khan Younis rocket array, The Times of Israel reported, adding the IDF said fighter jets struck and killed several more Hamas members and destroyed several sites belonging to the terror group throughout the day.

The IDF has been preparing for a full-scale ground invasion into Gaza to root out Hamas terrorists and rescue hostages taken during the terror attack. Earlier Thursday, the IDF made a limited ground incursion into Gaza, sending infantry forces and tanks up to 3 miles into the northern part of the Strip in a "targeted raid," The Times of Israel reported.

The raid, led by the Givati infantry brigade and the 162nd Armored Division, helped to prepare the area for the next stages of the war. Troops struck "numerous" terrorists, infrastructure and antitank guided missile launch positions, and "operated to prepare the battlefield," the IDF said.
