Some Israeli activists and families say a new HBO drama unfairly focuses on the killing of a Palestinian youth by Jews when Palestinian terrorism is more common, reports The New York Times.

“Our Boys,” which premiered in Israel and the United States in mid-August, centers on Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a 16-year-old Palestinian who was abducted near his East Jerusalem home and burned to death by three Israelis in July 2014.

The series was written, directed and produced by two Jewish Israelis and an Arab Israeli.

The backlash started after HBO aired the first two episodes. A right-wing political group representing 120 Israeli families of soldiers and civilians killed by Palestinians sent a letter to HBO demanding the program list the number of Israelis killed in Palestinian attacks through the years.

Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, last week tweeted: “The series tells the whole world how the Israelis and Jews are cruel and bloodthirsty murderers, and how the Palestinians are badly done by and oppressed.”

Hagai Levi, one of the directors, told the Times his job was not to be balanced.

“This series is not about terrorism at all,” he said. “It’s about understanding the nature of a hate crime.”

HBO has not responded to the complaints.
