Poland Hosts Regional Leaders for Post-Brexit Talks on EU

Thursday, 21 July 2016 06:05 AM EDT

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's prime minister is hosting her counterparts from the Visegrad Group of central European countries for talks on the European Union's future in the wake of Britain's decision to leave the EU.

The meeting is to discuss views ahead of an informal EU summit in September in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Poland's ruling conservative Law and Justice party wants more autonomy for EU member states, arguing that it would make membership more attractive and prevent other nations from leaving.

Poland is also suggesting that Britain should be allowed to reconsider its decision to leave, so-called Brexit.

Beata Szydlo is meeting Thursday with the prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

The four countries form the Visegrad Group, or V4, which is their platform for hammering out regional and European policies.
