BERLIN (AP) — An American diplomat has visited Donald Trump's ancestral home in Germany and suggested the U.S. president might someday pay a personal visit.

The U.S. consul general in Frankfurt, James W. Herman, said during a trip Thursday to Kallstadt, in Germany's southwestern wine-growing region, that "I can't think of a better place for a visit."

Herman's tour included a stop at the house where Trump's paternal grandfather was born. Friedrich Trump, who left Germany for the U.S. as a teenager, later tried to return but was expelled for having failed to perform military service.

Herman said that no arrangements had been made for a visit by Donald Trump, according to German news agency dpa. The U.S. Embassy in Berlin said it had no announcement to make.
