PARIS (AP) — French police say a gunman has opened fire on passers-by on Corsica island on Wednesday, killing one and wounding six people.

The suspect also shot at police officers in the Corsican city of Bastia before holing up in a nearby apartment.

Police said there is no indication his actions were terror-related. According to local media, the suspect is a man in his 60s and was known to police because he had trouble with his neighbors in the past.

Police said an officer was among the people injured.

The Haute Corse prefecture said a security perimeter has been set up around the building where the suspect is holed up.
