Monday, 09 July 2018 03:38 PM EDT

PRAGUE (AP) — The Czech justice minister has resigned less than two weeks after taking office, due to allegations of plagiarism.

Tatana Mala was sworn in June 27 along with the rest of the coalition government led by billionaire Prime Minister Andrej Babis that is meant to end a period of political instability following October's parliamentary election.

Mala's resignation comes before the government faces a mandatory confidence vote in the lower house of Parliament on Wednesday. All governments must win the vote to stay in power.

Mala has faced allegations that she plagiarized parts of two thesis at two universities. She has degrees in law and agricultural engineering.

She has denied wrongdoing, but announced her resignation on Monday following a petition of legal experts who called her unsuitable for the post.
