UK Reviews Charity Ties over Haiti Aid Worker Allegations

Saturday, 10 February 2018 06:38 AM EST

LONDON (AP) — The British government is reviewing its relationship with Oxfam after a newspaper reported that staff members of the anti-poverty charity used prostitutes while in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake.

The U.K.'s Department for International Development said Saturday that it had no tolerance for sexual misconduct and Oxfam needed to explain "the way this appalling abuse of vulnerable people was dealt with."

The Times of London has reported that the alleged misconduct by six former Oxfam staff members included the use of prostitutes, downloading pornography, bullying and intimidation.

Oxfam says the alleged behavior was "totally unacceptable, contrary to our values and the high standards we expect of our staff."

The charity says it investigated the allegations in 2011 and the alleged perpetrators all were fired or resigned.
