President Donald Trump declared the U.S.-Israel war against Iran was a major success in a prime-time address Wednesday evening.
"In these past four weeks, our armed forces have delivered swift, decisive, overwhelming victories on the battlefield, victories like few people have ever seen before," Trump said in his address from the White House, which aired live on Newsmax and simulcast on the Newsmax2 online streaming platform.
Trump said Iran's navy is gone, its air force is in ruins, and its leaders are dead.
"Their ability to launch missiles and drones is dramatically curtailed, and their weapons factories and rocket launchers are being blown to pieces," Trump said. "Never in the history of warfare has an enemy suffered such clear and devastating large-scale losses in a matter of weeks.
"Thanks to the progress we've made, I can say tonight that we are on track to complete all of America's military objectives."
Iran has carried out a reign of terror for 47 years from behind a nuclear shield, the president said, adding that he is committed to ensuring the country never obtains a nuclear weapon.
One of Trump's initiatives was withdrawing the United States from the nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama, which he called a "disaster."
"His Iran deal would have led to a colossal arsenal of massive nuclear weapons for Iran," Trump said. "They would have had them years ago, and they would have used them, would have been a different world.
"There would have been no Middle East and no Israel ... had I not terminated that terrible deal."
Despite Trump's claim that Iran's nuclear sites were "obliterated" in a strike last year, he said the regime is rebuilding its nuclear program and stockpiling conventional ballistic missiles.
"They were right at the doorstep for years. Everyone has said that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons," he said.
"But in the end, those are just words if you're not willing to take action when the time comes."
While Trump did not provide an end date for the war, he said Iran was going to be hit "extremely hard over the next two to three weeks."
"We're going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong," he said.
The president also said that regime change has occurred in Iran and that the new people in charge are less radical and more reasonable. But he said that if no deal is made, Iran will suffer.
"We are going to hit each and every one of their electric generating plants very hard," Trump said. "We are unstoppable as a military force."
"The nuclear sites that we obliterated with the B-2 bombers have been hit so hard that it would take months to get near the nuclear dust," he continued.
"If we see them make a move — even a move — for it, we will hit them with missiles very hard. We have all the cards, they have none."
Trump noted wars like Vietnam and World War II had lasted for years, yet the U.S. accomplished most of its goals in Iran in just 32 days.
"The country has been eviscerated and essentially is really no longer a threat," he said.
"They were the bully of the Middle East, but they're the bully no longer. The whole world is watching and they can't believe the power, strength, and brilliance," Trump added.
"Every American can look forward to a day when we are finally free from the wickedness of Iranian aggression and the specter of nuclear blackmail," he continued.
"Because of the actions we have taken, we are on the cusp of ending Iran's sinister threat to America and the world."
Prior to Trump's speech, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian released a letter addressed to the American people claiming that Iran is not a threat and that it harbors no ill will toward U.S. citizens, even as it appears to threaten "consequences."
"When war inflicts irreparable harm on lives, homes, cities and futures, people will not remain indifferent toward those responsible," Pezeshkian wrote.
Trump had repeatedly suggested before the speech the war with Iran could wrap up soon.
"We're over in Iran. We're sort of pretty much winding that up," the president said during a White House event, reported CBS News.
