Hospitals in Mexico are turning away coronavirus patients after hitting maximum capacity, according to Reuters.

It is likely 26 of Mexico City's 64 public hospitals taking care of patients with the deadly virus are full. And five of the city's private hospitals are also full and unable to take in any more coronavirus patients.

"Right now we don't have any space," an attendant at the private Centro Medico ABC hospital in Mexico City told Reuters.

And medical facilities in at least five states outside of Mexico City are too full to treat people with coronavirus.

As of May 11, Mexico has 36,327 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to Johns Hopkins. But The New York Times has discovered the Mexican government is reporting inaccurate death totals.

To date, more than 35,000 cases of the novel virus have been reported in the country, with some 3,400 deaths. But with limited testing, the numbers are likely much higher. In fact, a recent analysis by The New York Times found the Mexican government is not reporting an accurate number of deaths, with possibly hundreds to thousands of COVID-19 fatalities missing from official tallies.
