VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The latest on the deadly sinking of a whale watching boat with 27 people on board off Vancouver Island (all times local):

7:15 a.m.

The owner of a whale watching boat that sank off Vancouver Island says his team is heartbroken and they are doing everything they can to assist the passengers and staff.

Jamie Bray, the owner of Jamie's Whaling Station, said in a statement Monday they are cooperating with investigators to determine exactly what happened. He thanked first responders, rescue personnel and local aboriginal communities who rescued people.

Five British nationals died in the sinking. One person remains missing and 21 people were rescued.

6:30 a.m.

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond says five U.K. nationals were killed when a whale watching boat sank off Vancouver Island in western Canada.

Hammond expressed "deep sadness" in a statement and said his thoughts are "with the family and friends of all those affected by this terrible accident."

One person remains missing after the boat sank on a calm and sunny day off the tourist community of Tofino. Twenty-one people were rescued.
