Donald Trump has plenty of beefs with China, and he could soon have another one: a Chinese space station is thought to be in freefall and plummeting toward Earth.

According to Space.com, China may have lost control of its first space station — named Tiangong-1. That means it could eventually reenter the Earth's atmosphere and crash somewhere on the globe.

With so much water on Earth, the odds are good that the satellite will crash into the ocean away from humans. But there's a chance it could fall on land in a populated area.

"If I am right, China will wait until the last minute to let the world know it has a problem with their space station," amateur astronomer Thomas Dorman told Space.com. Dorman has tracked the satellite since its 2011 launch.

"It could be a real bad day if pieces of this came down in a populated area … but odds are, it will land in the ocean or in an unpopulated area.

"But remember — sometimes, the odds just do not work out, so this may bear watching."

In March, Chinese news organization Xinhua reported the operational life of Tiangong-1 was complete and that it would likely burn up in the Earth's atmosphere.

Satellites of this size, however, often do not burn up completely, leaving chunks of hot metal falling back to Earth.
