In a clear sign that the conflict in Syria is spinning out of control, embattled President Bashar al-Assad’s mother has now fled the country, according to a
report from Al Arabiya.
Assad’s mother Anisa Makhlouf has reportedly fled to Dubai, joining her daughter Bushra and her children, who took refuge there in September.
“Members of the regime, little by little, are flaking off,” said Robert Ford, a former U.S. ambassador to Syria. “They know they are losing.”
The 22-month conflict in Syria has cost the lives of more than 60,000 people and some sent 600,000 Syrians fleeing the country.
