Officials Say Pakistan Likely to Host Kabul-Taliban Talks

Tuesday, 28 July 2015 09:47 AM EDT

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Two Pakistani officials say the second round of peace talks between representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban is likely to be held in Pakistan on Friday.

The two officials said Tuesday that Islamabad was finalizing arrangements to host the talks, which are aimed at ending the 14-year war in neighboring Afghanistan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks were still being organized.

Afghan government officials have refused to provide details of the location or timing of the next round of peace talks.

Last week, two members of the High Peace Council, the body charged with negotiating a settlement with the insurgents, said China was the most likely venue for the next round of talks. Both also said they would take place on July 30.
