Use of Technology Eyed in Fight against Modern Slavery

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Seeking a job abroad? A website to check recruiters' reviews and ratings might be a tool to protect you against trafficking.

Andrew Goledzinowski, Australia's ambassador for people smuggling and human trafficking, says in an interview that such website, or a common hotline troubled workers can call, is among innovations that can help fight modern slavery.

A forum of officials and business leaders from 45 Indo-Pacific countries known as the Bali Process, which Goledzinowski co-chairs, last month adopted a plan to protect migrant workers and ensure the supply chain is not tainted by slave labor. Businessmen will submit next year detailed recommendations, including the use of technology.

Goledzinowski suggested the creation of a website of recruiters.
