KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Doctors Without Borders says wounded Taliban fighters were being treated in an Afghan hospital bombed by U.S. forces last month but that there were no armed men or fighting in the area.

The international medical charity, known by its French acronym MSF, on Thursday released an internal report confirming that U.S. forces had the exact coordinates of the clinic before launching an aerial assault on Oct. 3 that killed 30 people, including doctors and patients.

MSF general director Christopher Stokes says the group treats anyone wounded in armed conflict without regard to political affiliation and that its "no weapons" policy was upheld at the hospital.

The U.S. military has said the attack, requested by Afghan forces, was a mistake.

Stokes says "a mistake is quite hard to believe and understand."
