LIGNET: New French Taxes Will Kill Growth

"I hate the rich,” French President Francois Hollande famously said. And now he seems determined to punish them, by raising the top tax rate from 46.7 percent to 75 percent, introducing new taxes on stock options, bonuses and dividends and raising taxes on rental income and capital gains by more than 15 percent. But the wealthy in France aren’t likely to feel as much pain as the middle class as economic growth dips into negative territory and jobs become harder to find. By next year, France could find itself in the company of Greece and Spain , with the government too deep in debt to save itself.
