MADRID (AP) — A large cargo ship that went adrift last week in the Bay of Biscay is nearing the northern Spanish port of Bilbao following a towing operation that has lasted days.

Images Wednesday morning showed the listing, 164-meter (538-foot) Modern Express being towed by another ship via a cable.

The crew on the Panama-registered vessel was evacuated after issuing a distress call on Jan. 26. The ship is carrying 3,600 tons of wood and equipment.

Authorities had feared it would run aground in southwestern France.
