Serbian President Dissolves Parliament, Calls for Early Vote

Friday, 04 March 2016 06:21 AM EST

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia's president has dissolved the parliament and scheduled an early parliamentary election for April 24.

President Tomislav Nikolic says he signed the election decree Friday.

The populist government says the early vote is necessary so that a new Cabinet with a clear mandate can pursue economic and other reforms needed for Serbia to become a member of the European Union.
