BERLIN (AP) — Germany's Justice Ministry is proposing that mothers should be required to help identify their child's biological father to settle disputes over support payments.

A draft bill states that mothers would be obliged to divulge "who she slept with during the time of conception" if asked by a man paying child support.

Justice Minister Heiko Maas said Monday the measure would provide greater legal certainty for men trying to claim back money paid for a child that wasn't theirs.

The bill stipulates that women wouldn't have to provide this information if it would be "unconscionable" to do so, but doesn't elaborate. The proposal says child-support payments could be reimbursed for up to two years.

The bill will be discussed in Cabinet and would require parliamentary approval before becoming law.
