Finnish Police: Likely Suicide Attempt outside Parliament

Friday, 22 September 2017 07:39 AM EDT

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Police in Helsinki think two people stabbed themselves in the stomach on the steps outside the Finnish parliament in an apparent suicide attempt.

Police say they do not suspect any crime had been committed outside the Eduskunta assembly in downtown Helsinki.

On Twitter, police said Friday both were taken to hospital. The men's nationalities and their condition were not immediately known.

In August, a Moroccan asylum-seeker killed two people and injured eight in a stabbing attack in southwestern Finland. He is held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder with terrorist intent.
