Man Found on Fire outside London's Kensington Palace Dies

Tuesday, 09 February 2016 10:05 AM EST

LONDON (AP) — British police say a man has died after being found on fire outside Kensington Palace, the London home of Prince William and his wife Kate.

The Metropolitan Police force says officers were called early Tuesday to reports of a man behaving suspiciously in a locked park section near the palace. They arrived to find a man on fire.

Fire and ambulance workers tried to save the man, believed to be in his 40s, but he was pronounced dead at 3:42 a.m.

Police say they are not treating the incident as terrorist-related. They are linking the death to the search for a patient who was reported missing from a London hospital.

William, Kate and their children George and Charlotte were not at the palace at the time.
