LONDON (AP) — Novels about fractured families, a fractured Europe and the fractured state of race relations in the United States are among six finalists for the prestigious Man Booker Prize.

"Hot Milk" by British writer Deborah Levy, "All That Man Is" by Canadian-born British novelist David Szalay and "The Sellout" by U.S. author Paul Beatty are bookies' favorites to take the 50,000 pound ($66,000) fiction prize.

Also shortlisted are Graeme Macrae Burnet's Scottish crime story "His Bloody Project," Chinese-Canadian family saga "Do Not Say We Have Nothing" by Madeleine Thien and disturbing character study "Eileen" by American debut novelist Ottessa Moshfegh.

Most of the writers are relatively unknown, but judging panel chairwoman Amanda Foreman said Tuesday they are "the household names of the future."

The winner will be announced Oct. 25.
