Rocket Attack on Train in SW Pakistan Kills 1

Friday, 16 August 2013 04:35 AM EDT

QUETTA, Pakistan — A Pakistani official says unidentified assailants have fired a rocket at a moving train in a mountainous region in the country's southwest, killing one passenger and wounding 12.

Railway official Kashif Khan says Friday's attack took place near the village of Dozan as the train was heading to the town of Sibi in Baluchistan province.

He says the dead and wounded have been taken to a government hospital. Dozan village is located about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Quetta, the capital the impoverished province.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but suspicion fell on separatists in Baluchistan who have long waged a low-level insurgency against the government.
