QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Gunmen shot and killed three officers and wounded another person in a hit-and-run attack on a police post Sunday in southwestern Pakistan, police said.

Police spokesman Shahzada Farhat said two attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on a police post in the city of Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province, killing one officer on the spot and wounding two others before fleeing. He said one of the wounded officers died on the way to hospital while the other later died during treatment. Farhat said a bystander was also wounded.

Banned militant group Lashker-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has previously claimed major attacks on members of the minority Shiite sect.

Lately the group has focused on targeting security forces in the province.

Southwestern Baluchistan province, bordering Afghanistan and Iran, is also the scene of a low-level insurgency by Baluch separatists.
