Ivory Coast Again Arrests Former Gbagbo Spokesman

Saturday, 29 September 2012 10:22 AM EDT

ACCRA, Ghana — A lawyer says the spokesman of Ivory Coast's former president was arrested Friday, just days after being released on bail after an extradition hearing.

Lawyer Lucie Bourtoumieux said Saturday her client, Justin Kone Katinan, was arrested for the second time on Friday. Bourtoumieux, who also represents former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo, said Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara's government had new "allegations of blood crimes" against her client.

Katinan, a registered asylum seeker in Ghana, was arrested in August after Ivory Coast issued an international warrant charging him with economic crimes.

Gbagbo is awaiting trial for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court at The Hague. His refusal to concede defeat to now President Ouattara in 2010 plunged the nation into months of violence, killing at least 3,000.
