Will Smith, the famed actor and recording artist, might be casting himself as a candidate for real life political office, NBC News pop culture writer Adam Howard speculated Tuesday.
"Is America ready for the 'Fresh Prince' as president?" Howard wrote. "Trump has certainly shaken up traditional notions of who can be considered a credible candidate for the White House."
Howard's suggestion comes on the heels of Smith's press event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, promoting the recently released big screen blockbuster "Suicide Squad," where the actor dished on Donald Trump and "Islamophobia in America."
"The Middle East can't allow Fox News to be the arbiter of the imagery, you know," the actor said, per the Associated Press. "So cinema is a huge way to be able to deliver the truth of the soul of a place to a global audience."
Smith has frequently been vocal about his distaste for Trump.
"For a man to be able to publicly refer to a woman as a fat pig, that makes me teary," he told an Australian news website in early August. "And for people to applaud, that is absolutely f****ing insanity to me. My grandmother would have smacked my teeth out of my head if I had referred to a woman as a fat pig. And I cannot understand how people can clap for that. It's absolutely collective insanity."
In Dubai Smith said there might be a silver lining to the divisive campaign of the Republican presidential nominee.
"As painful as it is to hear Donald Trump talk and as embarrassing as it is as an American to hear him talk, I think it's good," Smith told the AP. "We get to know who people are and now we get to cleanse it out of our country."
