President Donald Trump is "projecting an image of strength" with his multiple public appearances since his hospitalization with the coronavirus last week, the White House director of communications said Tuesday.
“At times like this, in these moments, it is highly important for the commander in chief to express confidence to our domestic population, and it is very important, to our allies and adversaries," White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Tuesday.
She went on to defend Trump's removing his mask while posing for pictures near a White House photographer.
"This was a brief interaction," Farah said. "Our photographers, we know, when we work with the president, wear your mask and keep your distance."
She added, "The world and the American people needed to see their president strong and leading."
Farah also said Trump is focused on "working to defeat" the coronavirus.
She also pushed back against reports that the coronavirus outbreak at the White House had upset some staffers, saying she does not "give much credence to anonymous sources."
"We feel comfortable working here, we are taking precautions in the West Wing, we need to be washing our hands, wearing masks when we can't socially distance," Farah said. “That is not representative of the vibe in the White House . . . If anything, the team has been highly inspired by the president's strong leadership."
