President Donald Trump called the White House "elegant," and a "beautiful residence," in a phone interview with The New York Times.
"There's something very special when you know that Abraham Lincoln slept there," Trump said. "The Lincoln Bedroom, you know, was his office, and the suite where I'm staying is actually where he slept. Knowing all of that, it's different, than, you know, just pure elegance and room size. There's a lot of history."
Trump sleeps in the White House master bedroom. He wakes before 6 a.m. to watch cable TV and read through the Times, The Washington Post and the New York Post. He spends time in the Oval Office signing executive orders and in the West Wing for meetings. At night, he watches more TV, the Times reported.
He will be without his family for the time being – wife Melania is staying in New York with 10-year-old son Barron until the end of the school year – but Trump said they will visit on weekends. His first break from the presidency, he said, will likely be Feb. 3 to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Fla.
