A second intelligence official with more direct knowledge of the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is considering filing a whistleblower complaint, The New York Times reported Friday night.
The official is reportedly among a group of official interviewed by intelligence community inspector general Michael Atkinson, according to the Times. Atkinson briefed lawmakers about his work substantiating the whistleblower's account, but it was not clear whether he told them about the second official's concerns, the Times noted.
Since the second official met with Atkinson's office it was not clear whether the perosn needs to file a complaint to get legal protection given to intelligence community whistleblowers, the Times noted, since witnesses who talk to inspectors general have protections from reprisals.
