Wesleyan University Offers Housing for Every Sexual Persuasion

Apparently LGBT just wasn't enough, because liberal colleges now are in danger of running out of letters to describe sexual leanings.

Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, a very liberal arts school, apparently has room in its "open housing" program for virtually every sexual persuasion, and they identify it as "LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM" housing," the National Review notes.

According to Wesleyan's website, "Open House is a safe space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Flexual, Asexual, Genderfu..k, Polyamourous, Bondage/Disciple, Dominance/Submission, Sadism/Masochism (LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM) communities and for people of sexually or gender dissident communities.

"The goals of Open House include generating interest in a celebration of queer life from the social to the political to the academic. Open House works to create a Wesleyan community that appreciates the variety and vivacity of gender, sex and sexuality."

However, according to a lawsuit filed by the 147-year-old Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) fraternity, Wesleyan has ordered fraternities on campus to close down, if they refuse to house female students, The Washington Post reports.

Along with the alphabetical sexual housing, the lawsuit notes, Wesleyan has the "Women of Color House," the "Light House" for Christian students, "Womanist House," "Malcom X House," "La Casa de Albizu Campos House," "Asian-American House" and "Turath House" for Muslim, Arab and Middle Eastern students

In an email, William Holder, Wesleyan spokesman, said, "Representatives of DKE expressly disavowed any commitment to co-educate. Despite repeated requests from the University and several months in which to formulate its approach, the plan eventually submitted by DKE and subsequent communication from the organization did not include any timeline or detail for its proposed approach to partner with a sorority; nor did it adequately assure the university that female residents would have full and equal access to common areas of the house," the Post reported.

Scott Karsten, spokesman for the Kent Literary Club, also party to the lawsuit, told the Post, "Discrimination is abhorrent in whatever form it may exist. [Wesleyan] President [Michael] Roth’s pursuit of selective discrimination is an egregious example of political correctness gone wrong."

Last year, faculty and students wrote in a letter that because of the male-only nature of fraternities, "they explicitly and implicitly cultivate a gender-based power dynamic that privileges men, the hosts, over women," the Post reports.

Carl R. Trueman, writing in First Things, commented, "Wesleyan University has taken the ever-expanding list of initials used to refer to sexual identities to new heights of absurdity or sensitivity, depending on one’s perspective. We are now apparently up to fifteen letters."
