Washington state recalled 12,000 coronavirus testing kits due to a possible contamination, the Department of Health announced, The Hill reported on Sunday.
UW Medicine alerted the Department of Health about the possible problem.
"Though the quality control issue has only been observed in a small number of tubes of viral transport media, we adhere to the highest quality standards for COVID-19 testing in Washington state," Secretary of Health John Wiesman said. "We are working with our partners to have them discard the product and will work to replace them as quickly as we can."
The affected kits had already been distributed throughout the state to local health jurisdictions and other agencies, according to KOMO News.
However, state health officials said there was almost assuredly no health risk to patients.
The Health Department announcement added that no other supplies previously used for testing were affected by the recall.
