Mississippi authorities say police in Columbus have shot and killed a 33-year-old man, and the case has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
WCBI-TV reports that Rickey Javenta Ball, of Columbus, was shot during a traffic stop.
Police have not said what touched off the shooting Friday night.
WTVA-TV reports that Ball was hit in an arm and his buttocks, and a bullet apparently hit an artery.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant released his identity Saturday.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation investigates police shootings. Spokesman Warren Strain did not immediately respond to a call for comment Sunday.
According to WTVA, Ball had been given a ride by a woman who said she did not know him.
