The Tulsa, Oklahoma, venue hosting President Donald Trump's rally Saturday has requested the Trump campaign's heath and safety plan as the county grapples with an increase in coronavirus cases.
According to CNN, the Bank of Oklahoma Center asked the campaign for details on how it plans to keep people safe. The event will be Trump's first campaign rally since the coronavirus pandemic started earlier this year.
"Given the Tulsa Health Department's recent reports of increases in coronavirus cases and the State of Oklahoma's encouragement for event organizers to follow CDC guidelines, we have requested that the Trump campaign, as the event organizer, provide BOK Center with a written plan detailing the steps the event will institute for health and safety, including those related to social distancing. Once received, we will share the plan with local health officials," venue spokesperson Meghan Blood said.
Tim Murtaugh, the communications director for the Trump campaign, said, "We take safety seriously, which is why we're doing temperature checks for everyone attending and providing masks and hand sanitizer. This will be a Trump rally, which means a big, boisterous, excited crowd."
According to the Tulsa Health Department, the number of COVID-19 cases in Tulsa County has risen this month. Nearly 2,000 people have been infected in the county, with the seven-day rolling average of new cases at nearly 82 per day. Sixty-five deaths have been attributed to the virus in the county.
