A federal appeals court has upheld a $25 million settlement against President Donald Trump over his now-defunct Trump University, setting the stage for refunds to thousands of ex-students who say they were swindled.
The three-judge Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco rejected the plea of a Florida woman who wanted out of the class action lawsuit so she could file her own lawsuit against Trump, The Guardian reports.
Last March, a judge approved an agreement for Trump to pay $25 million to settle a series of lawsuits from customers in New York and California who charged they were bilked with overblown promises of success in real-estate.
Trump University was not a registered university, but a series of seminars delivered by experts said to be "handpicked" by Trump, according to The Guardian.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who sued Trump, said the approved settlement "means that victims of Donald Trump's fraudulent university will soon receive the relief they deserve."
