A white Donald Trump supporter Wednesday shook hands and hugged a black protester he punched at a rally last March, urging "you and me, we got to heal our country," WRAL reported.
James McGraw, who was charged with assault after hitting Rakeem Jones in the face at a rally in Fayetteville, N.C.
"You know what you did, and I know what I did," McGraw told Jones, video of the apology showed.
"I’m not going to say you were wrong or I’m wrong. I hate it worse than anything in the world. If I met you in the street and the same thing occurred, I would have said, 'Go on home. One of us will get hurt.' That’s what I would have said.
"But we are caught up in a political mess today, and you and me, we got to heal our country."
McGraw pleaded no contest to assault and disorderly conduct, and will be given a 30-day jail sentence and a year of unsupervised probation, WRAL reported.
In March, McGraw told "Inside Edition" he had no regrets about clocking Jones, adding: "The next time we see him, we might have to kill him," The Hill reported at the time.
