President Donald Trump is reportedly being considered to throw out the first pitch on the Washington Nationals' opening day next week.
Politico's Luke Russert reports that Trump is talking with the team about appearing at next Monday's game against the Miami Marlins. The president may also spend an inning in the booth with MASN TV announcers.
According to USA Today, meanwhile, the son of Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos said in a recent podcast people might not want Trump throwing out the first pitch at the Orioles' first game.
"Ultimately that decision is with the ownership group as to what major politicians and political figures and societal figures they want to invite," John Angelos said. "I know that the administration has taken a lot of criticism for its controversial positions.
"I think more so perhaps for statements made both during the campaign and since the administration came in concerning things that are considered to be problematic from a race, ethnicity, religious, gender, disability. People in those communities have been spoken about very negatively by a candidate and now president."
