The Senate Intelligence Committee's report on the CIA's use of "enhanced interrogation techniques" has become a best-seller on Amazon.com.
The 500-page summary, commonly called the "torture report," is available for free from the Intelligence Committee and from various news organizations, but that hasn't stopped someone from selling the public-domain document for
$2.99 a pop for viewing on Kindle devices.
Some user reviews have warned people they can get the document for free elsewhere
— and also that it isn't formatted for easy Kindle viewing. Still, enough people have laid down the cash to put the report at the No. 1 spot in Amazon's Intelligence and Espionage category.
That has it beating out "Hard Measures" by former CIA official Jose Rodriguez Jr. and "Pay Any Price" by New York Times reporter James Risen.
It ranks Nos. 4 and 5 in two separate Human Rights categories. It comes in at the 2,195th spot in the Kindle Store overall.
The Amazon listing says the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is the publisher, but, as a document in the public domain, anyone could upload it and sell it.
There also are four paperback copies available at Amazon for between $12.34 and $99.
