A Virginia bookstore owned called 911 after watching former Trump administration chief strategist Steve Bannon get accosted by a woman Saturday afternoon, calling him a "piece of trash," the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
"Steve Bannon was simply standing, looking at books, minding his own business," Nick Cooke, the bookstore owner, told the paper. "I asked her to leave, and she wouldn't. And I said, 'I'm going to call the police if you don't,' and I went to call the police and she left, and that's the end of the story."
It could have been much worse, after Democrats, namely Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., have called for protesters to "absolutely harass" those connected to President Donald Trump's White House.
The Richmond Police Department received the call at 3:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, but the call was canceled before the officers officially responded.
"We are a bookshop," Cooke told the Times-Dispatch. "Bookshops are all about ideas and tolerating different opinions and not about verbally assaulting somebody, which is what was happening."
There were allegations Cooke is a personal friend of Bannon, but Cooke declined to comment on that to the Times-Dispatch, merely calling him a "private person in my bookshop."
