A Starbucks worker in New Jersey has been charged with spitting in police officers' drinks.
NJ.com reported that 21-year-old Kevin A. Trejo admitted to tampering with the drinks when police questioned him about it.
Park Ridge, New Jersey, Police Chief Joseph Madden told the news outlet that Trejo was "arrogant enough to be bragging about it."
The chief said Trejo's actions were "very disturbing."
Trejo was fired and has been charged with subjecting a law enforcement officer to contact with a bodily fluid, tampering with a cup of coffee knowing it was ordered by an officer, and creating a hazardous condition, NJ.com noted.
New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association President Pat Colligan told the website, "Every time I think we as society hit bottom, there is a new incident. Officers risk their lives daily, it shouldn't be while getting coffee."
Police have been subjected to an increased number of verbal and physical attacks in the wake of the George Floyd killing at the end of May.
