The family of Seth Rich, the Democratic National Committee employee who was killed in 2016, has reached a settlement with Fox News over the network's reporting on the conspiracy theories surrounding his death.

Seth Rich, 27, was killed in July 2016 in what law enforcement has concluded was a robbery gone wrong, but conspiracy theories soon began to spread, claiming Seth Rich leaked emails from the DNC to WikiLeaks during the 2016 election cycle.

Joel and Mary Rich, Seth Rich's parents, filed a lawsuit against the network over two years ago claiming former Fox News guest Edward Butowsky and Fox News reporter Malia Zimmerman had "induced" them to hire a private investigator named Rod Wheeler, and the three of them were working together "to pursue and develop a fiction" their son leaked the DNC emails.

"We are pleased with the resolution of the claims and hope this enables Mr. and Mrs. Rich to find a small degree of peace and solace moving forward," Fox News told the Washington Examiner in a statement.

"The settlement with Fox News closes another chapter in our efforts to mourn the murder of our beloved Seth, whom we miss every single day," the Rich family said in a statement released by their attorneys.

"It allows us to move on from the litigation we initiated in response to Fox News' May 2017 article and televised statements concerning Seth's murder. We are pleased with the settlement of this matter and sincerely hope that the media will take genuine caution in the future."
