Poll: 40 Percent of Teachers Say Schools Unprepared for a Shooter

Four in 10 teachers say their schools are not well protected from shooters gaining entry, a new Gallup poll reveals.

But 60 percent of teachers say they feel at least somewhat protected in their schools.

Here is how the poll breaks down:

• 60 percent of those surveyed say they feel their schools are at least somewhat prepared if a shooter gets inside. Forty percent say their schools would not be too prepared or not prepared at all.
• 9 percent say they are very worried about being the victim of a school shooting; 27 percent are somewhat worried; 44 percent are not too worried and 20 percent are not worried at all.
• 8 percent of teachers say their students are worried about being shot; 37 percent of the students are said to be somewhat worried; 45 percent are not too worried and 10 percent are not worried at all.

The survey of 497 kindergarten through high school teachers was conducted March 5-12. The margin of error is plus or minus 7 percentage points.
