Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel says Americans oppose Democrats’ calls to defund police departments.
She made her comments in a Friday tweet. She wrote: ”A strong majority of Americans do NOT support Democrats’ radical calls to defund the police: “ABC/Ipsos poll found 64% oppose it. And liberal HuffPost found that only 27% support.
@realDonaldTrump supports law enforcement, and so do the American people.”
President Donald Trump on Monday tweeted a call to oppose defunding police departments in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
He wrote: “LAW & ORDER, NOT DEFUND AND ABOLISH THE POLICE. The Radical Left Democrats have gone Crazy!”
Meanwhile, Joe Biden and other high-profile Democrats are pushing back on the idea that police departments should have their funding cut.
"As his criminal justice proposal made clear months ago, Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded," Biden spokesman Andrew Bates said.
