Not long after tight end Rob Gronkowski announced on Tuesday he was coming out of retirement, his former team New England Patriots traded him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN and NFL Network.
Drew Rosenhaus, Gronkowski's agent, confirmed Tuesday to ESPN's Adam Schefter that the tight end was traded to Tampa.
"Pending the physical, Rob has agreed to play for Tampa this season," Rosenhaus said to Schefter. "He will honor his current contract at this time."
Gronkowski retired last year with one year and $9 million on his Patriots contract.
The trade will reunite Gronkowski with Tom Brady, who he won three Super Bowl rings with playing for the Patriots.
Along with Gronkowski, Tampa will also receive a 2020 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Last week, Bucs general manager Jason Licht said about the possibility of Gronkowski playing for the team: "Well, he's doing a pretty good job with WrestleMania right now ... I have no idea if he would want to play. I'll keep this on the draft right now because that's like asking about another player on another roster."
