Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden called President Donald Trump a "con man" during a campaign stop in Warm Springs, Georgia, saying his own style of governance will align more with that of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt if he wins the election, according to the Daily Mail.

"That's the kind of president I hope to be," Biden said. "I'm running as a proud Democrat but I'll govern as an American president. I'll work with Democrats and Republicans. I'll work as hard for those who don't support me, as for those who do."

Biden took shots at Trump, calling him a "charlatan."

"Time and again throughout our history we've seen charlatans, con men, and phony populists who sought to play on our fears and appeal to our worst appetites and pick at our oldest scabs for their own political gain," Biden said.

"They appear when the nation has been hit the hardest and we're at our most vulnerable," Biden said. "Never to solve anything. Always to benefit themselves."

Biden then quoted a warning from the Pope as a signpost for how the country should proceed as it heads down the home stretch toward the election.

"In his recent encyclical Pope Francis warns us against this phony populism that appeals to the 'basest and most selfish' instincts," Biden said. "Then he says this: 'Politics is something more noble than posturing, marketing, and media spin. These sow nothing but division, conflict and a bleak cynicism.'"
