Shaken students at Santa Fe High School chillingly described how a deranged teen gunman stormed into the building and began firing at their classmates Friday morning, leaving up to 10 dead.

Damon Rabon told CBS News he heard five loud bangs coming from the art room, looked up and a "kid came out [with] a black, like, trench coat on, a sawed-off shotgun with a pistol grip …

"And then he turned, and instead of looking our way, he just grabbed his backpack and went right back into the art room, so, at that point, we knew it was an active shooter.”

Choking back tears, student Dakota Shrader, whose friend was shot, told ABC News: "All we heard was run, run, run, and the next thing we heard was ‘boom, boom, boom.’

"And everybody just started running. [I was] trying to make it too the safest place I could … I just ran as fast as I could to the nearest forest to hide and call my mom.'"

Avery Garza told HLN anchor Carol Costello: "We heard popping noises. Then we saw people running across the field, and they were like 'Shooting, shooting, shooting!'

"[My friend] was in that class, and the shooter came in and started shooting. And he had a sawed-off shotgun and a pistol. And he shot a girl, and then pulled his pistol out and shot her in the head."
