Actor Martin Sheen slammed President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans as "disgusting" in a fundraising email for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Wednesday, The Hill reports.

"My time playing the president on 'The West Wing' taught me what Washington should be like," Sheen says, referencing the NBC political drama he starred in for seven seasons, where he played fictional President Josiah Bartlet. "And right now, with the Republicans in control, it's far from what we, as Americans, deserve."

The "Apocalypse Now" star added that he's "disgusted," which was the titled of the email, by Republicans "kowtowing to their rich special interests instead of representing the American people," and is "most disgusted" by the GOP's attempt to "gut health care and social programs for Americans in need."

Almost a year ago, Sheen described then-candidate Trump as an "empty-headed moron" in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August.

"Oh, Don Trump. He makes me laugh, in that nobody seems to get it yet," he said, explaining, "that he's an empty-headed moron. That he has absolutely nothing to offer us. That he's done his bidding and he has to be responsible for the damage he's already done."
