Actress and “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg has been hired by the Denver Post to write a regular column for its online blog called The Cannabist.
In
her first posting on Thursday, Goldberg praised the vaporizer, or “vape pen,” that allows pot smokers to inhale marijuana easily. And she also revealed that she smokes “weed” to provide relief from excruciating headaches that accompany her glaucoma, rather than to get high.
“My vape pen and I maintain a mostly private relationship,” wrote Whoopi, 58. “Mostly it’s just she and I working through my pain. And her ability to help me live comfortably with glaucoma makes her one of the more important figures in my day to day.
“When I show her to a friend, the reaction 99 percent of the time is, ‘Holy [bleep], where did you get this and how can I get me one?’ They’re seriously that blown away by my vape pen. And they should be. She’s that amazing.
“The vape pen has changed my life. No, I’m not exaggerating. And with each sip comes relief – from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort.”
According to the
National Post, the concept of having Whoopi write a column came when Ricardo Baca, editor of The Cannabist, appeared on “The View,” and they became friends.
“We instantly connected, and her curiosity and desire to discuss the issues surrounding America’s ever-changing marijuana laws immediately reminded me of my colleagues back in Denver,” Baca said.
“As expected, Whoopi’s column provides a direct and personal perspective on marijuana use in this very modern era. We’re grateful that she is willing to add her voice to this conversation.”
The Cannabist was created by the Denver Post to chronicle stories following the legalization of pot use in Colorado.
And the newspaper’s editor Gregory Moore said, “We are honored to have Whoopi Goldberg join The Cannabist to explain the cultural transformation taking place in America regarding legalized marijuana.”
The National Post said that Whoopi was one of nine possible candidates for the column, which included pop singer Miley Cyrus and conservative commentator Michelle Malkin. Whoopi’s column will appear every two months.
