Hillary Slips Into White House for Private Obama Lunch

Thursday, 29 May 2014 06:28 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton dropped by the White House Thursday for a private lunch with her former boss, President Barack Obama.

The meeting wasn’t on the president’s public schedule and wasn’t announced by the White House. The administration only confirmed the meeting after it was indirectly disclosed in a Tweet by People magazine, which had an interview with the potential 2016 presidential candidate about her new book "Hard Choices" scheduled.

The two enjoyed an informal meal, according to a statement released by the White House, which would not release additional details.

Clinton's memoir will be released June 10 and has reinvigorated debate about her tenure as secretary of state. In an excerpt released earlier this week, Clinton praised Obama's decision to launch the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, despite misgivings from some of his aides.

"The president's top advisers were divided. The intelligence was compelling, but far from definitive," Clinton wrote in an author's note from publisher Simon & Schuster. "It was as crisp and courageous a display of leadership as I’ve ever seen."
