Another member of the GOP thinks President Donald Trump should stop tweeting about unfounded allegations that MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough was involved in the death of a former congressional staffer.
House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney of Wyoming, told reporters outside the Capitol on Wednesday that the “president should stop tweeting about it,” The Hill reports.
Trump blasted out tweets on Tuesday and Wednesday claiming that Scarborough was somehow involved in the accidental death of a female aide to Scarborough when he was a congressman in Florida.
“I do think the president should stop tweeting about Joe Scarborough. I think we’re in the middle of a pandemic. He’s the commander in chief of this nation and it's causing great pain to the family who died. So I would urge him to stop it,” Cheney told reporters.
Before Cheney made her comments, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif, brushed off questions he fielded from reporters on the topic.
“I did not serve with Scarborough. … I don’t know anything about the case itself,” McCarthy told reporters.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, came to the defense of Scarborough and the staffer’s widower on Twitter.
On Sunday, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., blasted Trump on Twitter, calling the story a “Completely unfounded conspiracy” and asked the president to “Just stop. Stop spreading it, stop creating paranoia. It will destroy us.”
